The Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) is a non-governmental organization established in 2010 and
was registered in 2011. CEJ joined the civil society while carving out its own unique identity the
mandate to create platforms and processes that promote community access to quality and accurate
information on environmental protection, extractive industries, sustainable energy, climate change,
water security and agriculture with the ultimate aim of enhancing accountability for better decision
making and sustainable development as well as a support safe and adaptive environment as basic
fundamental human rights to having better and prosperous livelihoods.
To empower, enhance and strengthen environmentally challenged communities, youth, children,
women and men by involving them in promoting environmental justice and sustainable management
of natural resources
To help every individual thrive in engaging, negotiating and advocating for "Environmental Justice"
while contributing to sustainable development in its aspects.
To be a driving force behind greater achievements through the active mobilisation of public support
through information collection and dissemination, policy development and consultation, policy
implementation, assessments and monitoring; and lobby and advocacy.
Therefore, we actively mobilise public support through information collection and dissemination,
advocating for policy development, implementation & consultation; research, campaigns, community
and traditional leader's engagements, promotion of alternative livelihoods, policy dialogues,
awareness & sensitization; lobby & advocacy.
The CEJ App Version 2.0, is the first-ever mobile phone friendly web-based application in Zambia that
incorporates and exemplifies Corporate Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSER) best practices
by Mining companies, Large-scale Agriculture companies, Banks and other corporate entities, and
captures Community CSER Needs in various mining areas in Zambia. The App is meant to document
and showcase best practices of CSER and business investments by corporations that are into Mining
and Large - scale Agriculture. The App further hosts Climate Action-based activities facilitated by CEJ.
Furthermore, the App works as a Monitoring and Accountability tool that provides real-time
information as means for harnessing platforms for accessing quality and accurate information on
CSER and Climate Action initiatives in Zambia. The App initiative is supported by the Bread for the
World - Germany under the project "Mining Community Voices and Alternative Livelihoods" and the
World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature - Zambia under the project Amplifying Just Climate Voice (VCA)
project.
